Seeking New Members
Horniman Museum and Gardens Access Advisory Group

The Access Advisory Group plays a vital role in improving access for people with disabilities to the Horniman Museum and Gardens.

The Access Advisory Group currently has 8 people, and we would like to find 4 more individuals to join.

We are seeking new members who are excited by the opportunity to get to know the museum and its collections. We are looking for individuals with the knowledge and energy to advise and support staff and make this well-loved museum as inclusive as it can be.

Who can apply?

Members of the group must:

  • Live/have lived with a disability or have an understanding of living with a disability
  • Have a proven interest in museums and world cultures and a commitment to making museums more accessible
  • Ability and willingness to use their experience to help us improve physical and intellectual access throughout the Museum and Gardens
  • Be committed to attending four meetings per year at accessible venues within the Museum

To complement the current Group, we are looking for members with some specific skills and experience:

  • Individuals with experience of the ways that families with children aged 0-12 years old can use museums. This may be the barriers that are faced by families with a disabled parent or a child with disabilities.
  • Experience of limited mobility
  • Individuals with the experience and understanding to advocate for the concerns of young people aged 12-25 years old.
